Prevention of Nausea and Vomiting

Prevomax is a veterinary medicine used in dogs and cats to treat vomiting, in combination with other supportive measures, or to prevent vomiting

Active ingredient: Maropitant 10mg/ml

Pack size: 20ml multi-use vile

Indications for use: 

  • For the prevention of vomiting in dogs and cats, except that induced by motion sickness.
  • For the treatment of acute vomiting in cats over 16 weeks of age, dogs and puppies 8 weeks of age or older, in combination with other veterinary and supportive measures.
  • Aids in the prevention and treatment of nausea in dogs and cats.
  • For the prevention of perioperative nausea and vomiting and improvement in recovery from general anaesthesia after use of the μ-opiate receptor agonist morphine in dogs.

Dosage: Prevomax® should be administered subcutaneously or intravenously once daily at a dose of 1mg per kg bodyweight (1mL per 10kg bodyweight). Treatment may be repeated for up to 5 consecutive days.

For prevention of nausea and vomiting, Prevomax® should be administered more than 1 hour in advance. The duration of effect is approximately 24 hours and therefore treatment can be given the night before administration of an agent that may cause nausea or emesis eg. chemotherapy. Injecting the product at refrigerated temperatures may reduce pain at the time of injection.

Use the contents within 56 days of first broaching the vial.

When it comes to maropitant injections, there’s less pain for your patient with Prevomax. Prevomax is the first anti-emetic to use benzyl alcohol, rather than metacresol, as a preservative which is known to reduce pain at the injection site.
